Ray Demers Tournament CanAm"
| | Vacation is over and I had to leave Lake St. Clair and go back to work. It sure was nice to be on the big water for 2 weeks. Here are the details of the Ray Demers tournament. 50 people signed up to fish. 10 legal Muskies, 44"+, were caught. There were over 100 fish caught with many in the 40-43" range. There were reports of many big fish hooked and lost, some at boatside. We lost a really nice one right behind the boat. 1st, 49" Sharon Potvin 2nd, 47" Dean McKnight 3rd, 46.5" Sharon Potvin 4th, 45.5 Tim Graber 5th, 45.5 Christian Overmyer Junior Divsion winner, 45.5" Christian Overmyer. The weather kicked us in the teeth again, heavy rains on Friday night and Saturday flooded the campgroud pretty bad. George Smart and Mark Steinert and his wife know the meaning of a tent water bed now. Our new location worked out real good considering the weather. The pig roast was great and we had plenty of food for Sat and Sunday. Many thanks to Manny Farley for organizing this event. He put in a lot of time and effort to get this event going. I also want to thank many of our Canadian frieds for helping out, especially Paul "Fisheye" Lalonde and Dennis "Wiseguy" Wiseman. I think everyone had a good time and next year will be bigger and better. Put the last weekend in June on your calendar. Now for a St. Clair fishing report. The week before the tournament the fishing was a little slow, but we got 1-3 fish a day. 49" was the biggest for us that week. The fish turned on the Friday before the tournament, Maurice and Sharon really put some nice fish in the boat. Actually Sharon got most of the big ones. The week after the tournament was great, couple of windy days kept us off the water, but lots of big fish, many over 50". Our biggest was Margarets 51.5". Some friends from the Three Rivers Chapter, Mike and Lynn Yerman had 3 over 50". The warm weather has finally got the Muskies active and schooled up. When you find fish, stay right in that area because they seem to be in groups. The GPS is probably the most important device on your boat. Some of the best areas was right out in front of the Ruscom river, so we didn't have to go very far to get into fish. Mark
